Helms

A Kahunas alternative for online fitness coaches

What is a good Kahunas alternative for an online fitness coach?

Helms is a Kahunas alternative built by Logan Russo, a coach who moved a whole client roster off Kahunas and still coaches on Helms. It's free for up to 7 clients, and the paid plans start at £69 a month for up to 30.

If you want to switch, I move your clients across for you at no cost, on any plan.

Can you get your clients out of Kahunas?

Not with an export button. When I moved my own roster in July 2026 I found no export and no public API, so I read each client's check-ins, nutrition plan and progress photos out of the coach web app and rebuilt them in Helms.

It worked, and nobody lost their history, but it's the part to plan for. Two things nearly slipped through. The star ratings on a weekly check-in came back blank on the detail page, so I took them from the list view. And Kahunas leaves a swap meal out of the day's total, so I copied the grams and macros as they were and didn't recalculate anything.

You don't have to do that yourself. Send me what you can see in your Kahunas account and I'll do the move for you.

The bigger the business got, the more of my week went on juggling apps and re-typing the same client into all of them. It felt like more admin than coaching. I wanted one place for the lot: the client work, the business numbers, the social side. So I built it.Logan Russo, who built Helms and still coaches clients on it. From usehelms.com/coaching

What you can check

  • Clients log sets, food, habit ticks, check-ins and messages offline. Each action carries a key made on the phone, so a reconnect can't log the same thing twice.
  • Training history is kept as long as the account exists. Nothing is deleted for age.
  • You get a message the morning after a client skips a session.
  • You set a progression rule on the exercise once. The app reads the client's own last log and offers the next weight, with the reason beside it.
  • Group and semi-private sessions have a real capacity, and the waitlist promotes the next person when someone cancels.
  • On any paid plan your clients download an app with your name, icon and colours. On Free they get the Helms app with your business name inside it.
  • Your clients pay you through your own Stripe or GoCardless. Helms reads the numbers and takes no cut.
  • The AI drafts and proposes. It's blocked in code from writing a programme for you, and nothing reaches a client without your say-so.

What does Kahunas cost compared with Helms?

Kahunas lists its plans in US dollars on its own site, and I read them on 2026-10-20. Read the live page before you decide, because prices move.

Kahunas says your own branded iOS and Android app comes with Ultimate, and that you need an Apple developer account, $99 a year, to publish it. On Helms your own branded app comes with any paid plan, and you need the same $99 a year Apple developer account. The currencies differ and I haven't converted them.

When to stay on Kahunas

  • You have a large roster and want unlimited clients at the lowest price. Kahunas lists Ultimate at $99 a month. Helms Team is £279 a month for unlimited clients and three coach seats.
  • Your clients need an Android app. Kahunas lists one on its plans. Helms has no Android app for your clients and no Apple Watch app yet.
  • Your roster is settled and everyone is happy. Moving clients is real work, even when I do it for you, so only move when something is costing you.

The rest is on who Helms is not for.

Getting your clients across

There are self-serve importers too, for a client roster CSV, the full Helms template, and Cronometer or MyFitnessPal food diaries.

You can export a client's whole record from their page on any plan, Free included: plans, every logged set, check-ins, progress photos, biomarkers, supplements and messages.
